How to Save the Wild Tiger

http://www.enn.com/wildlife/article/41776
The number one rated animal in the world according to a poll performed by the channel Animal Planet, is on the brink of extinction. This animal is the tiger. Yes, the tiger is the number one rated animal in the world beating out the dog. Unfortuntley, this beautiful animal is beginning to dissapear at a high rate. Globally there is only 3,500 tigers left roughly and only 1,000 are females with the potential to breed. In the countries of Cambodia, China, Vietnam, and North Korea the entire tiger population is gone.Co-author of the Journals PLoS Biology, John Robinson, said, "The tiger is facing its last stand as a species...we are confident that the world community will come together to bring these iconic big cats back from the brink of extinction." Some of the causes are habitat loss, capture or killing by humans, and over hunting of their prey. Basically the main factor in the loss of the tigers is the humans need to use the tigers body parts for medicine. The 42 source site solution seems to be the only way to fix this horrible problem. The 42 source site are sites containing breeding populations and have the best chance to seed the tigers recovery of a large area for the future. These sites could be a perfect spot for a possible 70 percent of the tiger population across the globe. Many countries already have these sites in place and in the fall Russia is hosting what they are calling a "tiger summit" to promote these hopefully problem solving sites.

Opinion: I think the tiger is a beautiful animal and we should definitely preserve this animal. No animal deserve to go extinct because of humans. We should be able to find ways around using the tiger's body parts as medicine. We need to promote the sites all around the globe for the extinction to no longer happen.

Questions: What could you do to help the tiger extinction?
Why do we have to use the tiger body parts for medicine?
Do you have any other idea besides the sites for help for the tiger?

  1. Wow, I didn't even know that this was happening! Tigers (and lions) are, in my opinion, the greatest animals on Earth. It is absolutely awful that they are decreasing in population BECAUSE OF US!!! These sites are a perfect place to get the population back up. We are the main causes of this problem, so we should fix it! The only way to get more help is to make everyone aware of this situation. I recommend checking out this website, it has a lot of good information: http://hubpages.com/hub/different-ways-to-save-the-tiger-population-in-india-tiger-conservation

  2. I too didn't know how badly this amazing animal was in trouble. To help this worthy cause of saving the species, we need to stop destroying their habitat for selfish reasons. The tigers need that land way more than us humans do. Another way we can help the tigers is to breed them. Since there are only about 1,000 females left, we should definitely consider breeding them and putting them into the wild, that of course only if the area is a safe site. Another thing we can do is use trackers on the tigers and do more research on what else could be causing the decrease of population. Maybe it's not all our fault. We definitely need to help these beautiful animals before its too late, because it's all up to us.

  3. Once again, this group has showed the negative impacts humans have on these rare, magnificent creatures. It's unfair that a lot of these endangered animals' deaths are not their fault. In answer to Chris's question, the most profitable use for tigers as medicine are because of their bones. Tiger bones treat ulcers, typhoid, malaria, burns, rheumatism (disorder that affects the joints/connective tissue), and dysentery (a disease that causes inflammation of the colon). Considering tigers are more abundant in eastern Asia, China is the leading user of tigers for medicinal purposes.
One way for us as individuals to contribute to tigers is to become members of tiger saving organizations like The Tiger Foundation and Save the Tiger Fund which actually discusses biodiversity a little bit. Those are a couple ways we can be an aid to the tiger survival mission.

  4. much like the prnguin blog, posted by jake, i am, like the rest of the Lady Bloggaz, devestated by the fact we as humans are detroying the homes of, and killing off some of the most popular animals in the world. Well it sounds bad to say that because it sounds like i only care about the popular ones, but lets face it no body caresa if some animal no one knows about goes extinct. In response the the part about using the body parts as medicine, i agree wtih chris that they should find an alternative because once the tigers are extinct we wont be able to use their body parts anyway so might as well switch now and save the tiger species. My answer to question 3: Yes, i do. I think that what we should do, along with the 42 site solution, is use other types o0f cats body parts (i dont know the specifics but since tigers are in the cat family im assuming other cats have similar body parts) until an alternative is found. We as humans need to sop using any animals for anything, unlessusing the cut one plant one principal (yes i mede this up). The cut one plant one principal is essentially of your going to cut a tree down you should plant another where the old tree was. You can do the same with animals, if you breed cows, and you have 2 cows, what you do is mate them together and once you get over the average number of babies cows have, you can grow the other ones and use them for meat but the point is as long as u end up with the same if not more of the animal, you can use them for human needs, as long as we are not decreasing their population.
